FPUAFort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) has earned a Diamond level Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)® designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service.

Utilities must complete a rigorous application process, and the RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. FPUA joins more than 275 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation.

FPUA achieved the highest designation in 2018 and has once again earned the Diamond RP3 status. Utilities receiving Diamond RP3 status must maintain a proficiency rate of 98-100 in each of the four key disciplines. FPUA represents a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity, demonstrating their value and operational excellence to the Fort Pierce community.

“We couldn’t be prouder to have been awarded the Diamond Level designation from the APPA RP3 program for the second consecutive 3-year cycle”, said Paul Jakubczak, Director of Electric and Gas Systems for FPUA. “This award validates the hard work that is put in by the FPUA staff to ensure that we provide economical, reliable and safe services to our customer owners. This designation is not the final destination for FPUA. We will continually strive to improve our service to our customers and our community.”

“I think over the last year or so, we’ve seen the vital importance of running a reliable and safe utility,” says Aaron Haderle, Chair of APPA’s RP3 Review Panel and Manager of Transmission and Distribution Operations at Kissimmee Utility Authority, Florida. “The utilities receiving the RP3 designation have proven that they are committed to running a top-notch public power utility by implementing industry best practices.”
