FMEA Releases Annual Bill Comparison for 2019

FMEA is pleased to share a summary of our Bill Comparison Report for calendar year 2019, a comparison of the average rates of Florida’s public power utilities and investor-owned utilities for January-December 2019.

Across the board, public power offered the lowest average rate for residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout Florida in 2019. Out of 15 ranked categories, a public power utility reported the lowest average bills in every category.

Lakeland Electric reported the lowest average bills in 2019 in seven of the fifteen categories, Mount Dora in five, Tallahassee in two and Bartow in one.

For residential bills, out of three categories, Lakeland Electric reported the lowest average bills in two categories and the City of Bartow in one.

For commercial bills, out of eight ranked categories, Lakeland Electric reported the lowest average bills in four categories, and both the City of Tallahassee and City of Mount Dora in two.

In the industrial sector, out of four ranked categories, the City of Mount Dora reported the lowest average bills in three categories and Lakeland Electric in one.

The FMEA Bill Comparison provides a fair comparison of customer bills served by different utilities. The report includes utility rates, average franchise fees of 6 percent, and local payments in lieu of taxes.
