Committees & Interest Groups
FMEA operates several committees and special interest groups for its Municipal members. In addition to specialized information sharing, FMEA also facilitates surveys, workshops and roundtables throughout the year geared toward these specific groups.

Standing Committees
Board of Directors
Each FMEA Regular Member appoints one representative to serve on FMEA’s Board of Directors. The Board meets collectively on average, three times a year, and is charged with guiding and overseeing FMEA’s overall direction. Board members may also appoint alternates to vote in their absence.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is comprised of FMEA’s four officers – President, President-Elect, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer – as well as the three immediate Past Presidents of the Association. The Executive Committee guides the Association’s activities between the meetings of the FMEA Board.
Legislative & Regulatory Committee
The L&R Committee oversees the legislative and regulatory activities of FMEA. The committee meets on an as-needed basis, and is consulted often for legislative and regulatory feedback.
Mutual Aid Committee
Individuals at member utilities responsible for coordinating and managing mutual aid needs for their local utility. The primary designee is available around the clock to discuss 1) needs of their electric utility after a storm or when another emergency hits their area, or 2) available assistance to provide other utilities/cities in need after an emergency.
Customer Connections Committee
Consists of representatives from member utilities who work in all aspects of utility operations that interact with customers, including customer service, key accounts, energy conservation, and demand-side management.
Safety & Training Committee
Consists of representatives from member utilities who are charged with safely operating their electric utilities, including safety coordinators and safety directors. Training coordinators & directors also participate.
Communicators Committee
Consists of representatives from member utilities who are responsible for internal and external communications including media relations, social media, marketing and public relations.
Engineering & Operations Committee
Consists of representatives from member utilities who are responsible for every aspect of engineering & operations, including transmission, distribution, generation, and fuels.
Interest Groups
Administrative Professionals
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities that serve as administrative professionals.
Emergency Management
Interest group includes representative from all departments within member utilities who prepare for and execute emergency plans before, during, and after all manner of emergencies impacting the electric utility.
Energy Auditors
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who are involved in performing and/or providing energy audits to customers.
Finance
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who handle the financial side of public power utilities – including representatives involved in managing FEMA filings.
Fleet Management
Interest group includes representatives from member utilities who optimize the use of a utility's vehicles and equipment to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery.
Grants
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who are interested in learning about potential grant opportunities.
Human Resources
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who are involved in human resources for their utility.
IT & Cybersecurity
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who are involved in information technology and cybersecurity issues.
Key Accounts
Interest group consisting of representatives from member utilities who are involved in working with utility key accounts.
Large Utility CEO
Consists of the CEOs from FMEA’s large public power utility members, who serve 70,000 retail customers or more. Group meets 1-2 times a year or more frequently as requested by any of the CEOs.
Legal
Interest group consisting of legal counsel from member utilities.
Regional Small Utility Discussion Groups
FMEA can establish additional interest groups upon request of FMEA members (i.e., Florida panhandle public power city managers)
Renewables & Efficiency
Consists of representatives from member utilities who are involved in alternative energy supply, energy efficiency, distributed generation, electric vehicles, solar energy, conservation, and other innovative programs.
Vegetation Management
Interest group includes all personnel within member utilities who ensure safe and reliable power delivery by mitigating risks associated with trees and other vegetation growing near power lines.
Warehouse Management
Interest group consisting of the warehouse managers who play a crucial role for electric utility companies in ensuring the timely availability of critical equipment, spare parts, and materials needed for infrastructure maintenance, repairs, and expansions.
