City of Tallahassee Named #1 Leading Fleet in the Nation for 2025

Community,

City of Tallahassee LogoThe City of Tallahassee has achieved recognition as the No. 1 Leading Fleet in the nation for 2025! This prestigious honor was announced on June 24 at the nation's largest annual gathering of public fleet professionals, the Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX). Coordinated with the American Public Works Association, this award celebrates excellence in fleet operations, with Tallahassee earning the top spot as the best in the industry for its leadership, commitment to efficiency and innovation, and clear, future-focused vision.

"This recognition underscores the dedication and forward momentum of our City of Tallahassee team," Mayor John Dailey said. "Thanks to their hard work, Tallahassee is a forward-thinking city where innovation drives impact. We are leading on a national scale when it comes to operations and outcomes, and this serves as another example of why we are a 2025 All-America City finalist."

The Fleet Management department plays a vital role in supporting essential services across the City – from public safety to utilities to parks. In recent years, the department has adopted cutting-edge technology and been key to emergency response efforts, even traveling with mutual aid crews to assist other communities with disaster recovery. Additionally, it has implemented enhanced sustainability measures, including the integration of electric and hybrid vehicles into the fleet, the installation of EV charging infrastructure at City facilities and a robust preventive maintenance program that reduces fuel use and emissions.

"Fleet Management is a vital part of our City's operational backbone, maintaining nearly 3,000 vehicles and equipment that log over 1.1 million miles each month—reliably, efficiently and effectively," City Manager Reese Goad said. "Being named the nation's top fleet is a powerful recognition of our strategic planning, modern practices and exceptional service. Among approximately 19,500 U.S. municipalities – many that manage their own fleet operations – Tallahassee continues to stand out, and I couldn't be prouder of our team and all we achieve each day."

"This achievement is a proud moment for our entire Fleet Management team," Fleet Director Jeff Shepard said. "Our staff's dedication, professional expertise and collaborative spirit make it possible to deliver best-in-class service. We are honored to be recognized as the Leading Fleet in the nation."
