FMEA’s Electric Bill Comparison for September 2022 shows the average bills of public power utilities across Florida are $2.50 more than the average bills for investor-owned utilities per 1,000 kWh.

Overall, out of fifteen ranked categories, New Smyrna Beach Utilities reported the lowest bills in nine categories and the City of Tallahassee in six categories.

For residential bills, out of three categories, New Smyrna Beach Utilities reported the lowest rates in all three categories.

For commercial bills, out of eight ranked categories, the City of Tallahassee reported the lowest bills in four categories, as did New Smyrna Beach Utilities in four categories.

In the industrial sector, out of four ranked categories, New Smyrna Beach Utilities reported the lowest bills in two categories and the City of Tallahassee was lowest in two categories as well.

The FMEA Electric Bill Comparison provides a fair comparison of customer bills served by different utilities. The report includes utility rates, average franchise fees of six percent, and local payments in lieu of taxes.
