Leesburg Electric Implements QR Code for Power Outage Map

Just in time for hurricane season Leesburg Electric has created an Outage Map QR code to provide a quick and easy way to track outages in the utility service area. A QR code is a square image that can be scanned with a phone, usually by just pointing the camera at it. Scanning the new QR code will take utility customers directly to the city’s interactive outage map. This map can be searched by address and provides real time information on outages within the Leesburg Electric service area.

The QR code is available on the city website at www.leesburgflorida.gov It will also be included on printed utility bills and the upcoming quarterly utility bill newsletter. Customers are encouraged to keep the QR code in a convenient location to scan should they experience an outage.

Leesburg Electric provides two easy ways to report trouble with your power – by phone and by text. To report an issue by phone, customers can call the Leesburg Outage Reporting System at 1-833-223-1313. This automated system offers options to help customers report several possible types of trouble. To report an outage by text, customers can simply text the word OUT to 352-728-9830. The Text Reporting System is for reporting power outages only.

Both of these reporting systems utilize the phone number associated with the utility account. It is important that customers have their current phone number on file. To update account information please contact the city’s Customer Service Department between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm at 352-728-9800 option 2.

Customers should only scan QR codes from known sources.  Do not scan random, unsolicited or tampered-with codes. The Leesburg Electric Outage Map QR code should never take you to a site that asks for personal or account information. QR code scams (“Quishing”) should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ReportFraud.ftc.gov and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
