FMEA Releases Monthly Electric Bill Comparison for May 2020

FMEA’s Electric Bill Comparison for May 2020 shows the average bills of public power utilities across Florida are $14.78 less than the average bills for investor-owned utilities per 1,000 kWh.

Overall, out of fifteen ranked categories; the City of Mount Dora reported the lowest bills in five categories. Florida Power & Light reported the lowest bills in four categories. The Cities of Alachua and Tallahassee reported the lowest bills in two each and Lakeland Electric and the Utilities Commission of New Smyrna Beach in one each.

For residential bills, out of three categories; the City of Alachua reported the lowest bills in two categories and Florida Power & Light in one.

For commercial bills, out of eight ranked categories the Cities of Mount Dora and Tallahassee as well as Florida Power & Light reported the lowest bills in two categories each. Lakeland Electric and the Utilities Commission of New Smyrna Beach reported the lowest in one each.

In the industrial sector, out of four ranked categories; the City of Mount Dora reported the lowest bills in three categories and Florida Power & Light in one.

The FMEA Electric Bill Comparison provides a fair comparison of customer bills served by different utilities. The report includes utility rates, average franchise fees of 6 percent, and local payments in lieu of taxes.
