Conservation tips from Leesburg Utilities

As Florida prepares for a blast of arctic air that will be impacting the Central Florida Region, Leesburg Utilities would like to provide customers with the following information.

Weather forecasts predict that temperatures will be in the mid-low 20’s, with daily highs not exceeding 50 degrees. The most drastic impacts for electric consumption during this time are expected to be Sunday, February 1st between 7-10 AM and Monday/Tuesday, February 2nd-3rd between 6-9 AM. While electric customers can’t do anything about the weather, by taking a few modest steps to help reduce the peak energy demand, Leesburg customers can help to minimize at least some of the financial impacts surrounding this extreme weather event. Unfortunately, due to the weather and other geo-political world events, natural gas supplies will be stretched, causing higher short term fuel costs.

Leesburg Utilities recommends customers take these few basic conservation steps:

  • Lower the temperature of your home heating a few degrees during peak hours, then increase the temperature during non-peak hours.
  • Turn off pool heaters during peak hours.
  • Avoid charging electric vehicles during peak hours.
  • Reduce use of hot water during peak periods.
  • Minimize showering or use of large appliances that require lots of hot water – such as dishwashers and washing machines – during peak hours

Leesburg Utilities will also be communicating with our large commercial accounts to operate back-up generation equipment during peak times as a “load-management” technique aimed at reducing energy requirements and costs.

Please stay safe and warm during the next several days and rest assured that Leesburg Utilities will keep you informed and provide you with the most reliable and safe energy at a regionally competitive price.
