Florida Public Power Organizations Launch Social Media Campaign in Advance of Appeciation Day

In advance of Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day on August 26, the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) and Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) today launched a social media campaign to honor Florida’s public power lineworkers. The campaign will feature lineworkers from Florida’s 33 public power communities and focus on different aspects of “line life.”

During August, FMEA and FMPA will share on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, videos and graphics that showcase what line work means to public power lineworkers across the state, how line life impacts them, their family and their communities, and how they prepare for the job each day.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the campaign by liking, sharing and retweeting the posts, as well as sending their own messages of thanks through social media using the hashtags #ThankALineman and #LineLife.

“We are grateful for Florida’s public power lineworkers and their commitment to serving their communities,” said Jacob Williams, FMPA General Manager and CEO. “This month, we are honoring their service and sacrifice by highlighting the work they do and what it means to them.”

Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day was created to show gratitude to the men and women who risk their lives daily to ensure reliable delivery of electricity throughout Florida. It was designated by the Florida House of Representatives in 2012 in memory of Marc Moore, a lineworker for Lakeland Electric, who was tragically killed while serving his community in 2002. There are approximately 1,000 public power lineworkers in the Sunshine State today.

“Through this campaign, we hope to give a glimpse into the day-in-the-life of a lineworker. Every day is different. Some days they perform routine maintenance to ensure reliability and other days they are out after a storm restoring power,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “No matter what they are doing, their goal is the same: to get the power back on quickly and to keep it on for their family, friends and neighbors. We greatly appreciate the work they do every day to make their communities stronger.”
