Operations Shift Foreman, Production - Lakeland Electric
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS:
This is highly technical and management-level supervisory work directing the operations, environmental, maintenance, and scheduling activities of multi-fueled, high-pressure steam and/or combined cycle power generating units at multiple plant site locations. An employee in this classification is responsible for the activities during a rotating operating shift, providing 24/7 coverage at all three plant facilities and working under the direction of the operations manager at Lakeland Electric’s Production Division. Work is reviewed through field inspections, work orders, written reports, conferences, meetings, and the overall availability and reliability of the generating units. Work assignments may arise because of breakdowns of equipment in the plant, oral or written instructions, or from firsthand inspections and performance test results of the equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
- Ten (10) years of power plant operations experience, with a solid understanding of a distributed control system (DCS).
- Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
- At least 100 MW Combined Cycle. (Prefer Siemens or GE)
- Internal only experience:
- Supervisory experience may be substituted with completing the Lead MCO and Operations Shift Supervisor Qualification Sheets.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises Operations personnel, including selection, training, and development, assigning and monitoring work, and individual performance, including recognition and issue resolution within Production, all in accordance with established operating procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervises Operations for the safe, technical, and efficient operation of various complex power generation processes and associated equipment, including environmental equipment.
- Plans, assigns, demonstrates, and reviews preventive maintenance and minor repair work performed by skilled and semi-skilled workers who keep equipment in safe operating condition with good physical appearance.
- Makes immediate decisions regarding Operations and safety. Spends time in the field identifying safety hazards, checking for proper equipment isolations, and provides safety guidance for all work.
- Spends time in the field as the interface between the ECC and the Plants while conducting switching orders with Operations, Maintenance, and Sub Station personnel.
- Spends time in the field directing and reviewing operational and maintenance work performed by skilled and semi?skilled workers engaged in keeping plants and equipment operating safely and with good physical appearance.
- Provides guidance and performance reviews to direct reports and subordinates through observations in the field and control room and review of check sheets.
- Troubleshoots abnormalities, unit trips, or runbacks associated with plant equipment and operation.
- Recognizes and rewards good performance and addresses poor performance and personnel safety issues through coaching by proper use of disciplinary action.
- Identifies training and qualification requirements of direct reports and subordinates. Participates in hands-on instruction and knowledge transfer.
- Maintains accurate logs, time sheets, and shift schedules and ensures environmental compliance.
- Enforces employee compliance with COL’s and Production’s rules and policies.
- Resolves conflict within the operation’s workgroups and assists in resolving conflicts between that subordinate workgroup and other peer workgroups.
- May be required to work alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.
