Journeyman - City of Wauchula
The City of Wauchula is currently accepting applications for a skilled Journeyman.
This position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines and equipment, in accordance with trade standards, by performing the following duties.
Disaster/Emergency/Schedule/On Call/Rotating Shifts Expectations:
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position, which requires the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned dictated by operational necessity.
- Assists the Electrical Distribution Supervisor with planning new or modified electrical distribution system installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and established trade standards and codes.
- Assists the Electrical Distribution Supervisor with preparing sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that all completed work complies with established trade standards and codes.
- Climbs poles and operates all equipment associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the electrical distribution system.
- Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
- Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Replaces or repairs poles, cross-arms, wire, transformers, OCR’s, switches, arrestors, street lights, and other distribution equipment.
- Install and repairs primary and secondary metering.
- Provides guidance and job supervision to Linemen 2, Linemen 3, and Tree Trimmer, and makes decisions on minor problems that arise on the job site.
- Must be able to comply with scheduling requirements, including working on-call.
