This is highly responsible technical, supervisory and administrative work directing the activities of Material Management operations. A subject matter expert responsible for planning and directing all aspects of an organization’s materials management policies, objectives, and initiatives. Ensures proper levels of inventory management to meet organizational objectives.  Work is performed under the general direction of the Vice President of Power Supply.   Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel and job related tasks. May assume project management duties.    

Typical Tasks

Plans, organizes, supervises and participates in the work of ordering, receiving, storing and distributing a large and varied stock of equipment, supplies or parts.  Plans, supervises and evaluates the maintenance of inventory and control records, including a perpetual inventory and periodic physical inventories.  Plans, organizes, and implements inventory operations and procedures; supervises physical inventory count.  Provides proper materials management reconciliations and associated accounting functions to support year-end adjustments to General Ledger.  Assists in the preparation, evaluation and recommendation of award of formal bids for inventory items.  Works directly with suppliers to research suitability and application and to determine availability of supplies.  Solicits price quotes and purchases essential and operational supplies.  Makes purchases from established commodity contracts. Oversees all warehouse personnel.  Performs all duties of a storekeeper.  Supervises inside and outside storage.  Provides feedback and recommendations about materials management software utilization and advises on necessary software changes and modifications to support ongoing business and operational needs.  Develops methods and procedures for the receipt and distribution of stock.   Maintains inventory and manages the disposal of surplus equipment.  Writes and develops reports.  May respond after hours as necessary during times of storms or any emergency.   May assist with warehouse operations at other facilities requiring travel. Performs other tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of materials used in electric utility operations.   Knowledge of standard safety practices and procedures relating to warehouse operations and equipment.  Thorough knowledge of modern inventory and warehousing practices.  Knowledge in the use of work order systems used to track material and labor costs.   Extensive computer skills including use of spreadsheet and work processing software.  Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.  Knowledge on Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Material Transportation (DOT).  Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, other departments, the general public and affiliated vendors and contactors. Must be flexible and have excellent problem solving skills.  Must have effective verbal and written communications skills.   Knowledge of pricing techniques, market trends, sources of supply and public procurement practices. Must be able to respond in emergency situations. Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in materials management and supply logistics or any combination of education, training and experience. Seven (7) years of experience in materials management. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience in the electric power generation is preferred.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license issued by the State of Florida. Must hold a current forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
